Portofino Marine Park

Mount Portofino, in addition to being famous for its walks and the spectacular Abbey of San Fruttuoso, has become a precious underwater destination for its rich marine biodiversity. In 1999 it was designated a Marine Park and since then 21 diving points have been included, each more beautiful than the other, to discover the inhabitants of this wonderful place.

Not far from the very famous village of Portofino, in Liguria, this park extends from the municipality of Santa Margherita Ligure to the town of Camogli.

what are we going to see?

The undisputed protagonists of the park are the dusky groupers and the red coral. The groupers are territorial fish that have found in this area their oasis of peace far from the frantic fishing outside the reserve. It will be easy to meet the smaller ones (females) in some ravine and the larger ones instead wandering around with a regal tone, as only the rulers of the reefs know how to do.

While surprise surprise even in the Mediterranean there are corals and the red coral is the most precious coral in the world, it is worth going to see it in all its beauty.

We will also meet barracudas, moray eels, salemas, corvinas, white sea breams and gilt-head breams, small nudibranchs and some curious crustaceans. The seabed is rich in invertebrates such as bryozoans, sea urchins and starfish. We will not get bored Friendly Fins!

The Portofino park also contains a treasure right in the wonderful bay of the abbey.
